Cooperative was established in 2071 B.S with an objective to create a platform for all the women of community and encourage the saving habits in order to save their petty cash” present chair of cooperative Devi Bajgain shares their vision. This cooperative was registered but became functional only after the POWER project supported by Finn Church Aid and Women’s Bank Finland and implemented Jointly by SOLVE Nepal and FWEAN with an objective to support women of this area in 2070 B.S. Group of 34 women initiated the cooperative with the share amount 100 per women eventually 3400 as an initial capital. In the initial capital project’s funding was very crucial as they provided amount of NPR. 5, 15,100 as seed money.
“SOLVE Nepal through POWER project had supported us to become established. Now the support is still being continued under SEED project.” Devi further shares. Furthermore under the projects the share members has also been receiving the skill trainings and basic technical supports to initiate the micro enterprises. The cooperatives has three subcommittees i.e. Education Subcommittee that handles the orientations and campaigns to reach the community people Gender Violence Reduction Subcommittee organizes and facilitates the campaigns against women and orients and sensitizes other concerned, Loan Subcommittee scrutinizes and screens the applications for the loan and approves. The audit committee looks after the overall scenario of the cooperatives. Cooperative through its 9 sub committees (ward wise according to previous local government structure) operates its education campaigns, saving campaigns and other campaigns at community level.
Within the time span of 6 years, despite the challenges such as geographical inaccessibility, less and scattered population, cooperative has achieved good result. Cooperative has already expanded its membership from 34 to 343 share members while the Pyutaar beholds only 382 HH with altogether 1600 as a total population. Vocational training from FWEAN under SEED Project and other technical supports has been very crucial for increasing the share members and also increasing their entrepreneurship. The cooperative has now total fund of NPR. 4088689 that includes share amount of NPR. 487400, NPR. 26389292 as a Saving amount, other income and funds NPR. 447260, Seed money NPR 515100. Cooperative through its schemes has invested NPR 3679125 through loan. “Usually the share members apply for the animal husbandry, Cash crops and other agribusiness” cooperative manager Lilata presented the trends.
“Despite the regular supports from SOLVE Nepal under SEED project we are in coordination with local government and other concerned authorities for the resource pooling.” Cooperative manager shares. “Besides support from SOLVE Nepal we have received total amount of NPR. 5 Lakhs from ward, while 7 Lakhs from Bagmati Rural Municipality. For the cooperatives building that is undergoing construction.”
